Logline: After an unseen enemy blinds Northern Europe’s satellites during a solar storm, Joe Armstrong, Sean Davidson, Nick Stone, and Nikolai Rachenko must cross the high Arctic without navigation or communications and stop a rogue intelligence architect from turning the hidden crimes behind White Night and Red Winter into a permanent global hostage system.
Approximate finished-film runtime: 121 minutes. All space, communications, and infrastructure systems are fictionalized and deliberately non-operational.
ACT I — THE SKY GOES DARK
EXT. LOW EARTH ORBIT — NIGHT
A fictional observation satellite turns above the aurora. Its camera watches Northern Europe. A black command pulse crosses the screen. The lens shutters. One satellite after another closes its eye.
Below, aircraft navigation flickers. Ships lose position. Weather maps become yesterday’s weather.
TITLE: BLACK SUN
EXT. HELSINKI MARKET HARBOR — DAY
One year after Red Winter. Aino’s Human Line drill fills the harbor with runners carrying sealed messages between ships, hospitals, and civil-defense posts. Joe, Sean, Nick, and Nikolai watch from a soup stall.
NICK
Civilization reinvented jogging.
SEAN
You could participate.
NICK
I am strategic reserve.
Every harbor screen goes black. Compasses on nearby boats spin. A passenger ferry drifts toward the quay.
The four move without speaking. Joe and Sean board the ferry. Nikolai organizes dock lines. Nick commandeers a tug and nudges the ferry clear. Human voices replace dead radios. Disaster becomes a near miss.
One screen returns. A black sun ring appears around a white disk.
MAN (ON SCREEN)
You learned not to trust the network. Now live without the sky.
INT. HELSINKI CIVIL DEFENSE CENTER — LATER
Aino, Elina, Maarja, Matti, Mbeki, and Thandi join in person or by hard line. The blinded satellites share one maintenance contractor: HELIOS FOUNDATION, led by DR. ADRIAN VALE, former architect of a Western orbital intelligence program.
THANDI
Vale funded pieces of White Night through cutouts.
MAARJA
And sold Voss the blind spots she used for Red Winter.
NIKOLAI
He did not create our enemies. He created the room where they met.
Aino receives one surviving optical signal from Svalbard: an observatory technician waving a mirror in prime-number intervals. The message ends with four names—the heroes—and one location: NY-ALESUND.
ELINA
No satellite navigation. Solar storm closing the air corridor.
NICK
So we fly by maps.
ELINA
You mean paper?
NICK
Do not sound frightened.
INT. CARGO PLANE — ARCTIC NIGHT
Nick pilots by stars, magnetic compass, and insults directed at the weather. Joe notices Sean repeatedly checking a dead tablet.
JOE
It will not wake up.
SEAN
I know.
JOE
Your hand does not.
Sean puts it away. Nikolai unfolds an old Soviet polar chart covered in his handwriting.
NIKOLAI
This coast moved three kilometers since the chart was printed.
NICK
Good. We only need the runway to stay put.
An unmanned interceptor appears from cloud, flying visually. It clips their wing. Nick lands on a frozen fjord as the engine burns. The heroes escape moments before the plane sinks through sea ice.
EXT. SVALBARD FJORD — CONTINUOUS
No radio. No shelter. Wind erases the horizon. Joe ties the team together. Sean estimates direction from the aurora. Nick carries the emergency hot sauce, frozen solid. Nikolai recognizes distant coal towers from the chart.
White-clad BLACK SUN commandos attack on silent electric snow bikes. The heroes fight while roped together, turning the tether into defense. Sean’s dead tablet stops a blade. Nick mourns it more than Sean.
They capture a commando carrying four dossiers. Each ends with the same instruction: SEPARATE THEM.
INT. ABANDONED COAL MINE — NIGHT
The mine offers shelter and an old cable telephone. At the far end, observatory technician LIV NYGAARD answers. Vale seized Ny-Alesund and took Aino’s former professor, DR. SAMUEL OKAFOR, who designed the fictional solar-observation lens Vale now controls.
LIV (PHONE)
The lens can dazzle every surviving high-latitude sensor during the storm. He calls it permanent transparency.
SEAN
By making everyone blind?
LIV
Blind people accept guides.
The mine shakes. Vale’s men flood the lower galleries. The team escapes aboard antique ore carts, braking with boots and shovel handles. Joe chooses the unlit branch based on airflow. It opens beneath the observatory.
ACT II — THE LAST MAP
EXT. NY-ALESUND OBSERVATORY — PRE-DAWN
A white dome rises above a frozen settlement. Vale broadcasts from inside. ADRIAN VALE, sixties, elegant, wears a black sun ring.
VALE (ON SPEAKERS)
You four saved systems that deserved exposure. I will reveal every secret operation, every paid militia, every purchased scientist.
NICK
He could start a newspaper.
NIKOLAI
He wants ownership of the truth.
The heroes enter through separate service shafts—the separation Vale wants, but linked by a copper speaking tube running through the building.
INT. OBSERVATORY — MIRROR HALL — CONTINUOUS
Joe faces moving mirrors that erase depth and conceal attackers. He stops watching reflections and listens to Sean tapping directions through the tube. Joe allows himself to be guided.
SEAN (V.O.)
Two steps left. Duck.
JOE
Your left?
SEAN (V.O.)
Very funny.
Joe breaks no mirrors. He fogs them with steam, revealing every silhouette.
INT. OBSERVATORY — GYROSCOPE ROOM — CONTINUOUS
Sean crosses a rotating floor with no stable horizon. His instincts lie. Nikolai calls the cadence from an old maintenance diagram while Sean fights commandos upside down and sideways.
NIKOLAI (V.O.)
Do not find balance. Choose it.
INT. OBSERVATORY — ARCHIVE VAULT — CONTINUOUS
Nick finds apparent prisoners behind glass—children, pilots, Aino. He recognizes the fake rescue pattern and walks past. Then he hears one person not calling for help: Dr. Okafor, unconscious in a service closet.
NICK
They keep trying to improve my character.
Nick frees Okafor and learns Vale moved the primary lens controller south aboard a research icebreaker, BLACK MERIDIAN.
INT. OBSERVATORY — POLAR GALLERY — CONTINUOUS
Nikolai enters a gallery of declassified atrocities. His own scorpion-era missions cover the walls. Vale waits behind armored glass.
VALE
White Night existed because democracies wanted clean hands. Red Winter existed because their enemies wanted dirty truths. You kept both worlds alive.
NIKOLAI
People live in those worlds.
VALE
People are why systems fail.
NIKOLAI
People are why failure matters.
Vale opens the outer shutters. Polar wind destroys the gallery, documents whirling into darkness. Nikolai saves one file—the village he once refused to abandon—not to hide it, but to preserve its witness list.
EXT. OBSERVATORY ROOF — DAWN
The team reunites as the white dome opens. Vale escapes in a tilt-rotor with the lens core. KESTREL—scarred, imprisoned after Red Winter, now coerced with a neural restraint—guards the extraction.
Joe refuses to fight him. Sean disables the restraint transmitter. Kestrel turns on Vale’s commandos, then collapses.
KESTREL
He has a ground array in Finland. Old Korvatunturi backup. The icebreaker carries the alignment key.
JOE
Why help us?
KESTREL
I am tired of being somebody’s method.
Vale’s aircraft departs south. The Black Meridian breaks harbor ice below.
EXT. SVALBARD HARBOR / BLACK MERIDIAN — DAY
Nick starts a century-old rescue cutter. Liv joins with local researchers. They chase the icebreaker through pressure ridges as the solar storm paints the sky blood red.
Boarding lines cross between ships. Joe and Sean fight along iced cranes. Nikolai reaches the bridge. Nick steers beneath a collapsing ice arch because the modern route finder is dead.
Vale triggers a lens pulse. Every optical sight blooms white. The heroes close their eyes and continue by shouted cadence—the Human Line turned into combat.
They seize the alignment key, but Vale escapes by submersible toward Norway. A timer on the key shows six hours until the solar storm peaks over Finnish Lapland.
INT. BLACK MERIDIAN BRIDGE — LATER
Okafor explains the choice. Destroying the lens network will restore the sky but erase Vale’s archive—the evidence tying governments, companies, Voss, Volkov, Kang, and Red Shadow together. Preserving evidence risks permanent orbital blindness.
SEAN
He designed a choice where every answer serves him.
JOE
Then find another answer.
Aino reaches them by shortwave through the Human Line. She can copy the archive, but only if someone physically carries its crystalline memory from Korvatunturi before the array collapses.
ACT III — NORTH WITHOUT STARS
EXT. NORTHERN NORWAY — POLAR ROAD — NIGHT
The team travels south in an old postal convoy: snowcat, dog sleds, and a bus carrying stranded civilians. No GPS, no weather satellite, no reliable forecast.
Vale creates false auroras with ground lights, luring the convoy toward thin fjord ice. Joe notices reindeer tracks avoiding the route. The team turns seconds before the lead snowcat breaks through.
NICK
Saved by animals with better maps.
NIKOLAI
They read the ground.
SEAN
We forgot to.
INT. MOUNTAIN WEATHER STATION — NIGHT
Mbeki and Thandi arrive via a South African relief flight carrying analog instruments. Maarja brings Voss in custody. Voss offered one fact in exchange for facing public trial: Vale’s archive has a dead-man release that will dump unverified files worldwide if he dies.
VOSS
Kill him and every lie becomes evidence. Save him and he remains the only witness who can authenticate the truth.
NICK
Everyone in this trilogy needs therapy.
VOSS
Especially you.
NICK
I have hot sauce.
Voss identifies Vale’s emotional weakness: he believes institutions always protect themselves. He cannot imagine them choosing exposure voluntarily.
Aino proposes that allied governments publicly release the verified White Night records before Vale can weaponize them. Officials refuse. Mbeki turns on an open microphone.
MBEKI
Then we begin with ours.
Thandi testifies live. Maarja adds Estonia’s files. Elina adds Finland’s. One country at a time, the secret loses its hostage value.
EXT. FINNISH BORDER FOREST — PRE-DAWN
Vale’s Black Sun troops ambush the convoy. Snowmobiles attack between trees. Joe and Sean lead civilians through an old logging maze. Nick drives the postal bus in reverse. Nikolai and Mbeki defend the rear with flares and felled timber.
Kestrel, recovering, arrives with defecting Black Sun soldiers. He hands Joe Vale’s four dossiers.
KESTREL
He updated them.
Joe burns the dossiers unopened.
JOE
So did we.
INT. ROVANIEMI RESPONSE SCHOOL — MORNING
The solar farm’s sister facility in Finland becomes command. Aino builds a chain of mirrors, bells, runners, and landlines from villages to Korvatunturi. The entire trilogy’s allies take positions.
Jackson appears on a monitor from South Africa beside the restored desert snowplow.
JACKSON
You boys ever plan to finish a vacation?
NICK
This is cultural exchange.
Matti gives Sean a paper star chart. Joe gives him command of the assault without ceremony.
SEAN
You are coming.
JOE
Yes.
SEAN
Then why do I feel nervous?
JOE
Good judgment.
ACT IV — BLACK SUN RISING
EXT. KORVATUNTURI SOLAR ARRAY — POLAR NOON
The old mountain is transformed. A vast circular lens surrounds the repaired polar array, black panels swallowing daylight. The sun becomes a dark disk ringed with fire—not an eclipse, but an engineered shadow across the station.
Vale holds the crystalline archive in the central heliostat tower. If the lens aligns at storm peak, surviving satellites will blind and the archive will vanish in the overload.
Sean divides the mission. Joe and Kestrel take the shadow field. Nick and Elina take the mechanical drives. Nikolai and Mbeki reach Vale. Sean escorts Aino to the archive cradle.
EXT. SHADOW FIELD — CONTINUOUS
Thousands of black panels tilt like blades. Joe and Kestrel fight commandos in alternating total darkness and furnace glare. Kestrel expects orders. Joe gives choices.
JOE
Left or right?
KESTREL
Which is correct?
JOE
Whichever you choose.
Kestrel chooses left. It works. For the first time, he smiles.
INT. MECHANICAL DRIVE RING — CONTINUOUS
Nick and Elina crawl through enormous manual gears. Vale locks the motors; only synchronized hand cranks can reverse the lens. Nick’s shoulder fails.
NICK
I may actually be too old for this shit.
ELINA
You have been waiting three films to be correct.
She braces him. Together they move the crank one tooth.
INT. HELIOSTAT TOWER — CONTINUOUS
Nikolai and Mbeki confront Vale among floating archive prisms. Vale offers Nikolai the complete, unedited record of his life.
VALE
No myths. No absolution. Only truth.
NIKOLAI
Truth without people is inventory.
Vale attacks with a black-sun baton and automated shutters. Mbeki smashes the shutters’ control rods. Nikolai fights Vale hand to hand, refusing every opportunity to kill him.
INT. ARCHIVE CRADLE — CONTINUOUS
Sean and Aino reach the crystalline memory. Copying requires three minutes. The tower has two. Sean realizes the archive is segmented; the witness names can be saved first, the intelligence secrets last.
AINO
We cannot save everything.
SEAN
Save the people before the programs.
Aino copies witness lists, victim records, and funding trails. She leaves operational data to burn.
Black Sun fighters enter. Sean’s final gauntlet blends everything he learned: Joe’s stillness, Nick’s misdirection, Nikolai’s commitment, his own speed. But he never leaves Aino unprotected.
EXT. CENTRAL LENS / TOWER — CONTINUOUS
Storm peak. The black disk closes around the sun. Across Northern Europe, the last optical links fade.
The Human Line activates. Bells ring from village to village. Mirrors flash through gaps in cloud. Runners pull physical disconnects. Ships light signal lamps. The continent becomes a chain of human confirmations.
Joe and Kestrel release the east brake. Nick and Elina turn the west crank. Mbeki reaches the north cutoff. Nikolai holds Vale at south.
Sean cannot reach the final lever without abandoning Aino. Joe sees him across the tower and starts climbing the exterior lens.
SEAN
You will not make it!
JOE
Complete sentence.
Joe leaps through the ring of fire and catches the lever. Sean joins him. Teacher and student pull together.
The lens opens. Sunlight floods the mountain. The archive copy ejects into Aino’s hands. The surviving satellites reboot one by one—not controlled, merely able to see.
Vale triggers the dead-man release. Nothing happens. On screens around the chamber, governments are already publishing verified files. His hostage is gone.
VALE
They chose exposure?
MBEKI
People chose it for them.
The tower begins to collapse. Vale slips from the lens bridge. Nikolai catches him. Vale stares at the familiar mercy.
VALE
You need me alive.
NIKOLAI
No. You need to live with the record.
They haul him up. Everyone escapes along the turning panels as the black ring breaks apart behind them.
EXT. KORVATUNTURI RIDGE — SUNSET
The solar storm recedes. Rescue convoys arrive by compass and paper map. Voss and Vale pass each other in custody. Neither speaks.
Aino confirms the copied archive is intact. It contains enough truth for trials, not enough machinery to rebuild the weapons.
THANDI
The right things survived.
SEAN
The people.
JOE
The people.
Nikolai removes the scorpion pendant. He does not throw it away. He gives it to the archive as evidence.
NIKOLAI
Now it belongs to history.
EPILOGUE — FOUR SHADOWS
EXT. UPINGTON SOLAR FARM — SIX MONTHS LATER
The response school graduates its first international class. Mirrors track the sun normally. A memorial wall carries names from Africa, Finland, Estonia, Sweden, Norway, and every hidden operation exposed by the archive.
Mbeki directs the ceremony. Thandi teaches. Aino runs the Human Line foundation. Matti and Jackson argue over a generator. Elina and Maarja arrive in a legally returned Finnish snowplow.
NICK
I was going to return it.
ELINA
You did. We brought it back.
Kestrel, now using his real name—DANIEL KERR—joins the class without a uniform.
Joe watches Sean lead training. He no longer corrects him. Nikolai plants a small tree beside the memorial. Nick produces four plane tickets.
NICK

Nick waits.
