WHITE ANTLER
An original Lapland giallo screenplay
Written by Jani Apukka "Kalifornia Jani"OpenAI Original screenplay draft August 2026
WHITE ANTLER
LOGLINE
During polar night at a university in Finnish Lapland, a detective, a criminal profiler, and a forensic scientist hunt a ritual murderer who marks carefully chosen victims with a white reindeer symbol—until the evidence exposes a stolen identity, a buried human experiment, and a second figure hidden in every reflection.
PRINCIPAL CHARACTERS
ELIAS RAUTIO — A Lapland detective who trusts places more than people.
DR. LEENA SAARINEN — A Helsinki criminal profiler, rigorous and resistant to superstition.
DR. AINO KALLIO / ELINA VESA — A forensic scientist with a perfect memory for evidence and an erased past.
RECTOR MIRJA HAKALA — The university’s commanding rector and keeper of its founding secret.
JONI PELTOLA — A student podcaster who turns murder into campus mythology.
NELLI AHO — A folklore student who understands that legends can be engineered.
WHITE ANTLER
FADE IN:
EXT. KORVATUNTURI UNIVERSITY CAMPUS - POLAR NIGHT
Blue snow. Black spruce. Sodium lamps burn like small infected suns along a footpath buried between drifts.
A MODERN UNIVERSITY rises from the forest outside Rovaniemi: glass, concrete, and one surviving red-brick wing from an abandoned tuberculosis hospital.
Across a frozen pond, a WOMAN IN A SCARLET COAT walks alone. Her face is hidden behind a glossy black hood. In one gloved hand: a child’s wooden reindeer.
AURORA ripples over the campus. Green becomes blood-red.
INT. UNIVERSITY MUSIC ARCHIVE - NIGHT
PROFESSOR MATTIAS KORHONEN, 58, urbane and silver-haired, records a lecture among shelves of wax cylinders and Sámi field tapes.
KORHONEN
Every community invents a monster to carry what the community refuses to remember.
His headphones crackle. A woman hums a five-note lullaby. Not from his recording.
He removes the headphones. The humming continues through the archive speakers.
KORHONEN
Who is there?
A red desk lamp clicks on at the far end of the aisle. Then another. Then another, approaching in sequence.
On a reel-to-reel deck, tape begins turning by itself.
RECORDED GIRL (V.O.)
Do the reindeer remember the knife?
Korhonen freezes. He knows the voice.
A FIGURE in black leather and the scarlet coat appears behind frosted glass. One hand wears a thin black glove. The other raises a bone-handled puukko.
Korhonen runs. Shelves become a maze of red pools and blue shadow. He reaches the climate-control door. Locked.
The five-note lullaby accelerates. The Figure pulls a cord. A suspended ring of antique sleigh bells drops around Korhonen’s shoulders. He struggles. The bells scream.
The Figure steps close. We see only Korhonen reflected in the killer’s polished visor.
KORHONEN
Elina?
The blade flashes.
CUT TO:
The reel tape unwinds across the floor, soaking in blood. Beside Korhonen’s hand lies a white plastic token scratched with a branching REINDEER-ANTLER SYMBOL.
TITLE: WHITE ANTLER
EXT. UNIVERSITY MUSIC ARCHIVE - MORNING
Police lights pulse soundlessly through falling snow.
DETECTIVE ELIAS RAUTIO, 44, broad-shouldered, sleepless, studies the building before entering. He carries no hat despite the cold.
DR. LEENA SAARINEN, 39, a criminal profiler from Helsinki, approaches in boots unsuited to deep snow but refuses help.
LEENA
You always stand outside first?
ELIAS
Buildings lie less before you enter them.
LEENA
People lie less when they’re cold.
ELIAS
Then Lapland should be innocent.
They enter.
INT. MUSIC ARCHIVE - CRIME SCENE - MORNING
DR. AINO KALLIO, 41, forensic scientist, precise and pale, kneels beside the body. Her dark hair is pinned severely. A faint burn scar disappears behind her left ear.
AINO
Single deep wound below the sternum. The bells were applied before death. No defensive cuts.
ELIAS
He knew her.
AINO
Or he knew the knife.
Leena notices the pronoun.
LEENA
Her?
Aino points to a partial print in blood: narrow palm, long fingers.
AINO
Probability, not poetry.
Elias lifts the white token with forceps.
ELIAS
Reindeer.
AINO
Maybe. Antlers don’t branch symmetrically like that.
LEENA
Symbols aren’t anatomy. They’re instructions.
Aino looks at Leena. The smallest flicker of approval.
On a monitor, Korhonen’s last recording is frozen at 23:17. Beneath it, a file name: VAADIN_5.
ELIAS
Vaatin. A female reindeer.
AINO
Someone wants us to notice the sex.
INT. UNIVERSITY ATRIUM - DAY
Students gather behind police tape. Phones rise. Rumor moves faster than officers.
JONI PELTOLA, 22, journalism student and campus podcaster, whispers into his phone.
JONI
Professor Korhonen was found inside a circle of bells. The White Antler has returned.
Beside him, NELLI AHO, 20, first-year folklore student, crosses herself without irony.
NELLI
Don’t say it indoors.
JONI
Why?
NELLI
It learns the building.
INT. SECURITY OFFICE - DAY
Elias, Leena, and Aino watch grainy footage. At 23:05, Korhonen enters. At 23:11, the image fractures into green static resembling aurora.
SECURITY CHIEF VILHO RAUMA, 61, heavy and defensive, wipes sweat from his lip.
RAUMA
Solar interference. It happens.
AINO
Not to a wired camera inside reinforced concrete.
LEENA
Who can access the archive?
RAUMA
Faculty. Doctoral candidates. Facilities. Security. Half the university if they complain correctly.
Leena watches him, not the screen.
LEENA
And who knew the old name for the room?
RAUMA
What old name?
LEENA
You looked at the door when she said “archive.” Not at the monitor.
Rauma’s eyes harden.
INT. CAMPUS CAFE - AFTERNOON
The trio occupy a corner table. Snow erases the windows.
Elias lays out photographs: token, bells, tape, wound.
ELIAS
Korhonen chaired Ethnomusicology. No criminal record. Two divorces. Grant complaints. Nothing that explains theater.
LEENA
The theater is the explanation. Public crime in a private room. A punishment staged as folklore.
AINO
The token is photopolymer resin from a university printer. White pigment. Trace iron oxide.
ELIAS
Art department?
AINO
Engineering, architecture, medical models. Forty-three printers.
LEENA
And the blood print?
AINO
Too clean. A planted glove impression pressed after death.
LEENA
Our killer understands evidence.
Aino calmly stirs coffee.
AINO
Everyone understands evidence now. They watch television.
A STUDENT at the next table receives an alert. Then another. Soon every phone hums.
ON PHONES: a black reindeer head over red snow. Text: SHE WALKS WHERE THE AURORA BLEEDS.
INT. FOLKLORE SEMINAR ROOM - EVENING
Nelli tells a packed group the legend while Joni records.
NELLI
In the old hospital there was a winter ward for girls who heard voices. A doctor made them wear antlers so he could tell the obedient from the wild. One girl vanished in a storm. When the aurora turns red, she comes back and asks one question.
STUDENT
What question?
NELLI
“Do the reindeer remember the knife?” If you answer no, she cuts out the lie.
At the rear, Leena listens.
LEENA
How old is this story?
NELLI
Older than the university.
Joni lowers his phone.
JONI
It appeared on a student forum in 2004.
NELLI
That’s just when the internet learned it.
Leena sees a chalked antler symbol under the windowsill. It matches the token exactly.
INT. UNIVERSITY RECTOR’S OFFICE - NIGHT
RECTOR MIRJA HAKALA, 63, elegant and controlled, addresses Elias and Leena. Rauma stands behind her.
HAKALA
Canceling classes would reward panic.
ELIAS
A man is dead.
HAKALA
And six thousand people are alive. My responsibility includes them.
LEENA
Did Professor Korhonen participate in a project called Vaatin?
Hakala’s hand stops above a folder.
HAKALA
Vaatin was a multidisciplinary sleep study. Twenty years ago. It produced nothing.
LEENA
It produced a file name at a murder.
HAKALA
Then someone has read our archives.
Elias notices a framed photograph: five young researchers outside the red-brick hospital wing. Korhonen. Hakala. Rauma. DR. PETRI LAMPI, now Dean of Medicine. And a younger woman whose face is scratched away.
ELIAS
Who is she?
HAKALA
I don’t remember.
LEENA
That is an ambitious answer.
EXT. FROZEN RIVER - NIGHT
Dean PETRI LAMPI, 56, cross-country skis beneath floodlights. His breath clouds his headlamp.
Ahead, a line of tiny red reflectors glows on the snow, leading off the track.
He follows. In a clearing stands a reindeer carcass made from anatomical teaching bones, wired upright. A cassette player hangs in its rib cage.
The lights die. A scream echoes through the building.
Elias, Leena, and Aino run.
INT. SECURITY OFFICE - MOMENTS LATER
The door is locked from inside. Elias breaks it.
Rauma is seated before twelve monitors. Thin copper wires run from his eyelids to the screens, forcing them open. Every screen shows the red aurora footage.
On his chest, drawn in blood: the antler symbol.
Rauma is alive.
RAUMA
She was in the glass.
The monitors flash a single frame: a GIRL’S BURNED FACE reflected behind the camera in 2004.
Then all files erase.
INT. HOSPITAL - RECOVERY ROOM - NIGHT
Rauma lies bandaged. Leena sits beside him.
LEENA
Who was Elina Vesa?
RAUMA
A scholarship girl. Brilliant. Suggestible. Hakala said grief made her ideal.
LEENA
Grief over what?
RAUMA
Her mother froze to death. Elina heard her singing in storms.
LEENA
What happened in Trial Five?
Rauma begins to cry.
RAUMA
We showed her a murder that wasn’t real. Korhonen made the sound. Lampi controlled the drugs. Hakala played her mother. Elina attacked the mirror. The lamp fell. Fire went through the ward.
LEENA
Who died?
RAUMA
They told us Aino. Elina ran into the forest.
LEENA
And you let the legend replace the report.
RAUMA
The university had just received its charter.
His heart monitor stutters. Leena calls a nurse.
A NURSE in a surgical mask enters, injects the IV port, and leaves.
Leena sees black leather under the nurse’s cuff.
She races into the corridor. Empty.
Rauma convulses. Across the window, condensation blooms into the antler symbol from the outside.
INT. FORENSIC LAB - NIGHT
Aino conducts Rauma’s toxicology. Elias and Leena watch.
AINO
Potassium chloride. It will look like cardiac arrest unless sampled immediately.
LEENA
You sampled immediately.
AINO
That is why you bring me.
Leena studies Aino’s face.
LEENA
The nurse was left-handed.
Aino continues pipetting with her right hand.
AINO
Then you have narrowed Finland by ten percent.
INT. STUDENT RADIO STUDIO - NIGHT
Joni broadcasts live despite a campus lockdown.
JONI
Three members of Project Vaatin are dead or attacked. Rector Hakala remains protected in her office. The White Antler isn’t hunting students. It is correcting faculty history.
His chat explodes with messages. One user, VAADIN_5, posts coordinates.
Nelli enters, frightened.
NELLI
Don’t go.
JONI
This is the story that gets me out of here.
NELLI
Maybe the story wants you here.
He kisses her forehead and takes his camera.
EXT. REINDEER RESEARCH ENCLOSURE - NIGHT
Joni follows the coordinates through blowing snow. Dozens of reindeer stare, their eyes reflecting red from his camera lamp.
He finds an old metal case buried beneath a feeding platform. Inside: VAATIN TAPE FIVE.
The killer appears between the animals.
JONI
I can tell what they did to you.
KILLER
You already told it wrong.
JONI
Elina?
KILLER
Names are the first evidence people falsify.
She advances. Joni raises the tape.
JONI
If I die, this uploads.
KILLER
No. It loops.
The reindeer surge as a gate opens. Joni is knocked down. The killer takes the tape but does not stab him.
She cuts a reindeer symbol into his camera strap and vanishes.
INT. INCIDENT ROOM - PRE-DAWN
Joni, bruised, recounts the attack.
JONI
She knew the upload was fake. She knew my battery was dead.
ELIAS
What did she smell like?
JONI
Cold metal. Cloves. That hospital-clean smell.
Aino enters carrying evidence bags.
Joni stares at her.
JONI
And something sweet. Like burned sugar.
Aino sets down the bags.
AINO
Ketone residue from the enclosure heaters can smell sweet.
Leena notices Joni never mentioned heaters.
INT. UNIVERSITY ARCHIVES - MORNING
Leena and Elias search personnel records.
LEENA
Our killer spared Joni because he wasn’t in Vaatin. She has rules.
ELIAS
Rules until she runs out of names.
They uncover a sealed death file for AINO KALLIO, 19. Dental identification was performed by Lampi. The body was burned beyond recognition.
ELIAS
Our Aino’s birth record?
The database shows it was reissued in 2005, one year after the fire. Sponsor: Rector Hakala’s office.
Leena finds a photograph of young Aino Kallio. Blond, round-faced. Nothing like Dr. Aino.
LEENA
Elias.
He already understands.
INT. FORENSIC LAB - SAME TIME
Aino stands alone before a stainless-steel mirror. She removes her severe hairpin. Her hair falls. She touches the scar behind her ear.
From a locked cabinet she takes the bone-handled knife and the scarlet coat.
Her phone shows a message from Hakala: I KNOW WHO YOU ARE. COME ALONE.
Aino smiles without pleasure.
INT. RECTOR’S OFFICE - DAY
Hakala waits behind locked doors with a pistol. The campus outside is empty under evacuation.
The intercom plays the five-note lullaby.
HAKALA
Elina. I can explain.
KILLER (V.O.)
You explained for twenty-two years.
Sprinklers erupt, spraying water dyed crimson by emergency tracing fluid. Hakala fires at shadows.
The killer drops from the ceiling service hatch in black leather, visor, scarlet coat.
They struggle. Hakala tears away the visor.
AINO’S FACE.
HAKALA
No. I gave you that name.
AINO
You gave it to the fire.
Aino forces Hakala toward the wall of awards. Behind one plaque is a mirror from the old chamber.
AINO
Say what you saw.
HAKALA
I saw a sick girl ruin everything.
Aino raises the knife.
A gunshot. The blade spins away.
Elias stands in the doorway. Leena behind him.
ELIAS
Aino Kallio—step away.
AINO
There is no Aino Kallio.
Leena looks at the blood-red water, the mirror, the scar.
LEENA
Elina Vesa.
Aino’s expression changes. For the first time, she looks nineteen.
HAKALA lunges for the knife. Aino kicks it away. Hakala slips, crashes through the old mirror, and hangs over the atrium void on a frame of broken glass.
Elias grabs Hakala’s wrist. Leena grabs Elias.
Aino could help. Instead she watches.
HAKALA
Please.
AINO
Do the reindeer remember the knife?
Hakala sobs.
HAKALA
Yes.
Aino takes Elias’s free arm and helps pull Hakala to safety.
Sirens approach. Aino submits to handcuffs.
ELIAS
Why save her?
AINO
Because she finally answered correctly.
INT. POLICE INTERVIEW ROOM - NIGHT
Aino sits opposite Elias and Leena. No makeup. Hair loose. The burn scar is fully visible.
On the table: white tokens, the knife, photographs of the victims.
ELIAS
Korhonen. Lampi. Rauma. Attempted murder of Hakala.
AINO
Rauma was alive when I left the security office.
LEENA
You entered the hospital as a nurse.
AINO
No.
Elias slides forward a still image of the masked nurse.
AINO
That is not me.
LEENA
The glove. The gait. Potassium chloride known immediately.
AINO
Known because the concentration was wrong.
Leena stills.
AINO (CONT’D)
I use ten millimoles per milliliter in demonstrations. The hospital syringe contained twenty. And the antler on the window branched six times.
ELIAS
Yours branch five.
Aino nods.
AINO
Vaatin had five trials. Someone copied my symbol and added herself.
The door opens. An officer whispers to Elias and hands him a tablet.
ON SCREEN: Rector Hakala’s hospital room. Empty bed. Window open to the snow. A white token on the pillow—SIX branches.
Elias turns to Aino.
ELIAS
Who is the sixth?
Aino looks genuinely afraid.
AINO
The woman in the mirror.
INT. ARCHIVE PROJECTION ROOM - LATER
The recovered Tape Five plays for Elias, Leena, and Aino under guard.
ON VIDEO: Young ELINA strapped in the mirror chamber. Young Korhonen and Lampi work controls. Young Hakala speaks into a microphone. Rauma films.
In the observation booth behind them stands a sixth researcher: quiet laboratory assistant MARJA VESA—Elina’s mother, supposedly dead before the study.
The image jitters. Marja injects Elina through an IV. Korhonen protests.
YOUNG KORHONEN (ON VIDEO)
That isn’t the protocol.
MARJA (ON VIDEO)
It is the cure.
Fire blooms. In the confusion, Marja drags an unconscious blond girl—Aino Kallio—behind a partition. She lifts the camera and looks directly into it.
The five-note lullaby comes from her lips.
Aino rises, chains rattling.
AINO
My mother died in the forest.
LEENA
You saw a body?
AINO
They told me.
Elias rewinds. Freezes on Marja’s hand. A crescent scar across the palm—the same shape as Aino’s childhood scar.
LEENA
She gave you the scar. Or you copied hers.
AINO
She taught me that wounds are family names.
On the final frames, Marja carries Aino Kallio toward the flames while Elina crawls out a rear door. The tape ends.
INT. HOSPITAL CORRIDOR - SAME NIGHT
A WOMAN IN A NURSE’S UNIFORM pushes Hakala in a wheelchair. We never see her face.
Hakala is drugged but conscious.
HAKALA
Marja?
The Nurse hums five notes.
She pushes Hakala through doors marked MORTUARY.
INT. POLICE INTERVIEW ROOM - DAWN
Snowlight enters. Aino sits very still.
ELIAS
You killed three people to punish a crime you did not understand.
AINO
I understood what they did to me.
LEENA
But not who began it.
Aino looks at the evidence photographs. In each glossy surface—a bell, black ice, a monitor—there is the faint reflection of an older woman watching.
AINO
She watched me become her alibi.
EXT. UNIVERSITY CAMPUS - DAWN
Police lead Aino across the snow. Students watch from behind windows. Joni records but lowers his phone when Aino looks at him.
The aurora has faded. The sky is colorless.
Nelli finds a white token half-buried near the path. Six branches.
She does not touch it.
INT. MORTUARY - DAWN
Elias and Leena enter with weapons drawn.
Hakala lies alive on a steel table, wrists bound. On her chest is an old photograph of six Vaatin researchers.
The Nurse is gone.
On the tiled wall, written in red antiseptic:
THE MOTHER TEACHES THE FAWN.
Leena looks into a convex security mirror. For an instant, a woman in a scarlet coat stands behind them.
Linux - for the beginners - and also for an experienced user This is my earlier Lnux article!! The Big, Friendly Guide to Linux Distributions Distros, package managers, desktops, kernels, C programming, software costs, and commercial support Linux is not one single desktop operating system sold by one company. It is a large ecosystem. The Linux kernel is the central component that talks to the computer's hardware, but a usable operating system also needs thousands of other pieces: system tools, libraries, installers, an update service, applications, documentation, and usually a graphical desktop. A Linux distribution , usually shortened to distro , selects those pieces, integrates them, tests them, publishes installation media, and delivers updates. That is why Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Linux Mint, Arch Linux, openSUSE, and many others can all be “Linux” while looking and behaving differently. They may share most of the same open-source foundations, yet make different choice...
Mantsurian kandidaatti (1962) - pieni käsittely Mantsurian kandidaatti on muunmuassa Frank Sinatran tähdittämä paranoidinen Korean Sodan - jälkeinen salaliittoelokuva. Juoni on seuraava; Kersantti Raymond Shaw’n (Laurence Harvey) johtama joukkue joutuu korealaisten jou...
Avenging Force (1986) - Arvostelu Ja Muuta Juttua Sam Firstenbergin ohjaama Avenging Force on hikinen ja suoraviivainen Cannon-toimintaelokuva, jossa American Ninjasta tuttu parivaljakko Michael Dudikoff ja Steve James kohtaa tavallista synkemmän vastustajan. Dudikoff esittää entistä salaisen palvelun agenttia Matt Hunteria. Hänen ystävänsä Larry Richards (Steve James) on senaattoriksi pyrkivä poliitikko, joka joutuu äärioikeistolaisen Pentangle-järjestön maalitauluksi. New Orleansin Mardi Gras -karnevaalissa tehty verinen isku vetää myös Hunterin ja tämän perheen konfliktiin. Pian tapahtumat siirtyvät Louisianan rämeille, missä vaikutusvaltaiset fanaatikot metsästävät ihmisiä urheilun ja vedonlyönnin vuoksi. Hunter joutuu taistelemaan ystäviensä ja perheensä puolesta – ja muuttumaan itse saaliista metsästäjäksi. Elokuva suunniteltiin alun perin jatkoksi Chuck Norrisin Invasion U.S.A. -elokuvalle. Päähenkilön nimi Matt Hunter säilytettiin, mutta Norris korvattiin Dudikoffilla. Lo...
Siinä on käsitelty asiat viisaasti. Alun mietelause on seuraava. VIHAAN JA RAKASTAN KUKA VOI KERTOA MIKSI? -CATULLUS Seuraavaksi on takauma Dannyn (Ryan Gosling) kouluajoista jolloin tutkittiin tooran tekstejä. No niin. Mistä tässä on kyse? Jumala koetteli Abrahamin uskoa. Danny, onko sinulla taas lisättävää? Ei ole kyse Abrahamin uskosta,...
A Message for the Reader The Northern Signal is a story about survival, but survival in this trilogy means more than continuing to breathe. It asks what remains of humanity when nations, governments and familiar ideas of victory have collapsed. Its characters inherit a world destroyed by organized fear. They live beneath mines and metro systems, travel across poisoned roads and frozen seas, and search the radio spectrum for proof that they are not alone. In this respect, the trilogy shares thematic ground with Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now . That film carries its characters deeper into a landscape where the language of duty, civilization and military necessity can no longer conceal the madness of war. The physical journey becomes a journey into the human capacity for violence. The Northern Signal begins on the other side of that darkness. The catastrophe has already happened. The old political arguments have reached their final and most terrible conclusion. Russians, Uk...
